Waterproofing
The Free 400 jacket is designed to withstand a half day's skiing in the snow (about 4 h). To help you brave bad weather (rain, snow, wind, etc.), this product is rigorously developed and assembled to prevent water from entering. Then it was placed in a special shower reproducing the actual conditions encountered by skiers in use in order to check that it is waterproof.
Water repellent component
Water-repellent fabric allows water to run off its surface without seeping in thanks to a treatment that is applied to its exterior. The fabric is not waterlogged, it stays light and warm. This treatment must be renewed in the course of the garment's lifetime, after 2 to 3 washes on average, using products available in our stores. All waterproof Wed'ze jackets receive a water-repellency treatment.
Taped main seams
In addition to the waterproof fabric, we reinforce the sealing of the FREE 400 jacket with sealed seams. Sealed, adhesive strips are fixed behind the seams making the garment waterproof. There are sealed seams on the areas most exposed to snow. These are usually located on the shoulders and chest.
Wadding thermal lining
For skiers to feel "neither too hot, nor too cold", the garment must be able to adapt to the body's physical movements and to the outside environment. We use wadding for insulation to keep you warm. The wadding is a synthetic material containing polyester that stores more or less air depending on the size of the fibres. Wadding can be standard, hi-tech or siliconised, each offering different properties (warmth, lightweight, supple, etc.).
Thermal insulation
The cuffs have adjustable Velcro tabs that go on or underneath the gloves creating a better seal. They prevent unpleasant cold draughts and snow from getting inside in case of a fall. And because the cold can cause irritation, Wed'ze has added a soft fleece chin guard to protect your face and avoid any risk of neck and chin irritation.
Thermal insulation advice
We recommend using the 3-layer rule. The principle is simple: Use 3 layers of fabric, each having a particular function. Your skiing base-layer and your liner jacket must produce and retain warmth. Your ski jacket protects you from the weather conditions. All these layers should be breathable in order to evacuate humidity.
Breathability
It's the ski jacket's ability to allow moisture produced during exercise to escape to the outside. The aim? Stay dry. To see if a fabric is breathable, we measure its resistance to evaporative heat, called Ret (standardised ISO 11092 test). The lower the RET, the more breathable the fabric. Wed'ze uses hi-tech materials and solutions (zips, ventilation, mesh) that help prevent condensation inside the garment.
Windproof
The fabric is made windproof with a coating or by applying a membrane on the inside. When skiing on the slopes or resting on the ski lifts, protect yourself from the wind to prevent chills and make you as comfortable as possible.
Durability
We know how much energy is expended during a day's skiing or snowboarding. That’s why we take particular care in choosing all the elements that make up our products to guarantee the best possible protection.
Ski pass pocket
You no longer need to get your ski pass out because your sleeve has a ski pass pocket to allow you to access the cable cars quickly.
Care instructions
To optimise your jacket's performance and durability, we advise the following: Machine wash separately at 30°C. Synthetic cycle. Turn inside out. Use a small amount of detergent. No softener. Wring out manually. Dry on a hanger in a warm, well-ventilated place. Do not dry clean. Do not place on a radiator. You can re-waterproof the outer fabric using an aerosol waterproofing spray for fabric. Read the care tag carefully.
Product Reviews
Great waterproof jacket, warm. the only down side is the hood ,which seems 3 times bigger than my head! but it does keep me dry.
Warm, good quality.... one downside is that it easily slips up while snowboarding. Recommend getting trousers with shoulder straps to prevent getting wet.
I ordered tnis jacket in November and have only worn it for one week skiing in Feb. The jacket is a good fit ,very warm and waterproof. Everything you would expect from a ski jacket HOWEVER the inside the jacket the lining is very "splattered" looking and while there are no rips or tears the lining is light and it looks as if the padding is coming away from the outer layer and clumping up in places. The jacket has never been washed so I don't know why this is happening. I am a huge fan of Decathlon products but I am disappointed with this.
